Spring Skincare Top Tips

SAY GOODBYE TO DRY, FLAKY, UNEVEN SKIN TONE & WELCOME IN THE SPRINGTIME GLOW YOUR SKIN DESERVES.

1. Don’t Forget To Spring Clean Your Old Products

Old skincare products can collect bacteria, leading to breakouts and even infection. So, it’s important to go through your cabinets and cosmetic bags to ensure your products haven’t expired or dried up.

An easy way to determine the life expectancy of a product after it has been opened is to check the PAO (Product After Opening) symbol. This is generally found on the back of your skincare products, along with the number of months the products can be opened before it expires.

Once You Have Finished Spring Cleaning Your Vanity It Is Time To Think About Replenishing Your Products And Start To Prepare Your Skin For A Radiant Spring Glow.

2. Exfoliation & Cleansing

The harsh winter weather and environmental elements such as indoor heating can take a heavy toll on your skin leaving it dry, dehydrated and dull. To achieve that healthier spring glow, start by removing the dead skin cells. This not only instantly brightens the complexion, but also allows your skin care products to penetrate deeper into the skin, helping to maintain the moisture levels.

But, don’t be overly harsh with your exfoliation! Daily cleansing, in combination with gentle weekly exfoliating are the perfect remedy to help your skin as it begins to adjust to the warmer weather, kick-starting cell turnover and rejuvenating your skin and complexion.

Balense’s Daily Gentle Cleanser is our recommended daily cleanser, used in conjunction with one of our exfoliating cleansers, the Clarifying Cleanser or Micro Exfoliant. Ask us which is best suited to your skin type.

3. Clean Sheets Are A Must

Life gets busy and it’s easy to forget just how important it is to change your sheets and pillowcases. Natural oils from your skin and hair will transfer to your pillow while you sleep. As these build up they can mix with dirt and grime causing chaos with your skin. This can lead to unwanted breakouts so it’s vital you are regularly changing your pillow slips and sheets for new ones that are fresh and clean. Consider using a laundry detergent without added fragrance to avoid any reactions in sensitive skin.

4. Don’t Skip The Serum

To maintain peak skin hydration, don’t forget the powerful combination of your serum with moisturiser, with powerful ingredients designed to boost the hydrating effects of your moisturiser. Serums with active ingredients and antioxidants also help to give your skin a vital layer of defence against the elements.

Our favourite moisture-boosting serum is the Antioxidant Lift FX. Try mixing in with your daily moisturiser to maintain your springtime glow.

5. Switch Up Your Moisturiser

Spring brings warmer weather and while the skin does retain more water during the warmer months, it’s not quite the hash heat of summer. It is time for you to look at changing your moisturiser and swapping your daytime creams from thick and nourishing to something a little bit lighter while still keeping the skin nice and hydrated. If you feel like you need more nourishment you can use your richer cream at night. This will help your skin adjust to the changing season while ensuring you keep perfectly hydrated.

6. Fruit-Infused Water

Drinking at least 2L of water a day should be everyone’s goal and while you may always strive to archive that it can sometimes be difficult to accomplish. The importance of keeping hydrated is something that we talk about all the time as it’s a vital step in keeping your skin healthy and glowing.

By adding some water rich fruits to your daily water intake, such as berries, melons, citrus fruits, and of course cucumber you will not only give your water a refreshing taste but more importantly help keep your body hydrated.

7. Sun Protection

If the sun isn’t beating down it is easy to forget just how important sun protection can be. The smallest amount of sun exposure can have long lasting effects on your skin like premature aging, lines, wrinkles and of course the risk of skin cancer. Even if you aren’t spending a lot of time outside, incidental exposure from things like driving or working in an office with big windows can still have an impact on the skin, which is why it’s even more important to be using at least an SPF 30 everyday, no matter the time of year.

Balense’s broad spectrum UV Defiance SPF 50+ Lotion is light weight, easily absorbed into the skin and can be used over the top of your moisturiser without leaving your skin feeling greasy. It’s the perfect daily SPF for your routine! And of course, don’t forget to reapply throughout the day.
